For an hour, I was transported straight back to primary school, and what a great time it was! I’ve been a follower of James on TikTok for years now, I was excited to finally experience Primary School Bangers live, and it more than lived up to expectations.  

James is a natural host, effortlessly balancing nostalgia, comedy and audience participation. His enthusiasm is infectious, making even the shyest of audience members feel comfortable joining in.  

The setlist spans generations, from assembly hymns and school disco favourites to musical theatre classics and Scout campfire songs. Whether you grew up in the 60s, 80s, 2000s or anywhere in between – there’s almost certainly something that will have you signing along. 

But even if singing isn’t your thing, you’re still in for a great time, whether you want to join in with the actions, clap along or simply just soak up the atmosphere, the show is endlessly entertaining.  

The show isn’t just an hour of singing, James tells stories from his own time in primary school, as well as from his time as a teacher. These stories are just as entertaining as the music itself, filled with relatable memories of school life and observations on how childhood has changed, from dial-up internet to TikTok trends.  

For anyone needing a lyrical reminder, souvenir programmes with the words are available to buy – a lovely nostalgic touch. Chances are, though, you’ll be surprised by just how quickly these lyrics come flooding back.
